  1. I've been taking a look at the Mutant Year Zero quickstart, and it seems very good. But I can't help noticing that scarcity and grit seem to be key parts of the game. I've also read that in the main game the people of the Ark are ultimately doomed to fail.

    I'm looking for an rpg that works along similar lines, but where building back is important. I don't mind scarcity being important. But I'd like the PCs to be able to stabilise the situation and, if they fight off the threats, actually begin to grow their community.

    I've seen Legacy: life among the ruins might do the sort of thing I'm interested in. But I'm wary of the players needing to play both a PC and a family, and am not sure how it would work in practise. My ideal would be something more like a single character per player plus some sort of character sheet for the home base, rather than multiple character sheets. But I could be persuaded to take a deeper look at legacy if it isn't as complicated as I'm fearing.

    But any recommendations would be welcome. Is there a positive post-apocalypse game?

  2. Disclaimer: I'm not talking about “NPC” factions that exist in a setting. I'm talking about games where the players play and manage a faction additionally to their character(s). I'd count everything from a group sheet where there are some kind of common resources to manage as a group up to managing a whole population of NPCs like a city.

    Some games involve deeper rules for factions that your group can play and manage. What's your experience with games that support those elements? Did you like it? What was good and what wasn't? What did it add to the experience?

  3. There are a lot of relationship mechanics, 'Hx' in Apocalypse World and 'Team' in Masks the next generation being a few popular ones.
