Help with my assignment!
Read Time:1 Minute, 9 Second

The robber barons are a band of noble knights that have secretly rejected the concept of property.  Bored with their affluent lives, the now amuse themselves by attempting, in person, to steal the goods of their fellow robber barons.  They meet each winter solstice to compare score.  Last year’s winner was the Duke of Taunton who successfully stole three ships of the line belonging to Lord Brighton.

The Lore Lords are a group of learned bards that are the highest seat of trivia appeal.  Should there be controversy or conflict on a point of lore, the Lore Lords will research and give judgement.  The rulings are of limited use as the Lore Lords often choose or make up a new story that is better drama rather than actually correct.  Not helpful if their definition of orthodoxy means you’ve brought the wrong herb to ward of wights.

The night knights are a civiarlic order cursed by a wizard queen for failing to safeguard her treasury.  Partially banished to the plane of shadow, they are twilight creatures forced to forever stand watch over a ruined keep.

  1. Many of my friends are able to put aside the system because they focus on the story, but for me the system is the most important aspect of the game, if the system is unable to provide me what I want I simply can't enjoy the game, I feel detached and unable to grasp my character.

I was playing earlier with some friends in a steampunk fantasy campaing, but everything felt boring because I hate the homebrew system my GM is using, It's a DnD homebrew, but all classes have the same HP progression, we increase attribute each level, perception was turned into a 7th attribute so now stealth is the easiest skill to use (you can have proficiency in stealth which is now 2 + level, but you don't have proficiency in attributes). We took away classes and we put carrers whose bonuses came from another system because the GM said it fits his scenario better and I'm the only one who simply doesn't enjoy the game at all, I feel detached everytime the dice starts rolling, and that's one of my favorite parts of playing TTRPGs, today was my breaking point, we started a bossfight and the creature's AC was 28, my character is three levels behind the party because I skipped one session in which the party did a dungeon crawl and killed a Dragon, so I can't hit that thing, and I just sit there hoping to crit one day… I'm just sick of this game, so I came here before leaving the game to seek validation with people who feel the same whey if they don't enjoy the system or people who at least sympathise with me.

  2. It's that time of year, when the pumpkin spice flows and Spirit Halloween stores spawn like like on-the-spot NPCs.

So, I'm hanging out at the local gaming store and they've asked that I run some horror games, specifically indie games, to spread the word about games that aren't D&D and Pathfinder. I've already got World of Darkness and Call if Cthulhu. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Extra points if you can point to a Quick Start PDF or free (legal) resources online!
