  1. I recently ordered the complete Swords and Wizardy boxed set from Frog God Games. During the checkout process, it skipped over the shipping selection step and selected “Priority shipping” at ~$20. I figured okay, it's probably worth it because it's a big box and must weigh a lot with all the books inside. But then it took two days for my order to even get processed (a big priority!) and once it finally shipped, it was scheduled for delivery within 10 days. That didn't seem right. So I looked it up and priority mail for a box of the size they shipped costs, at most, $9 and takes three days. So I emailed asking, what gives, why are you charging me $20 to ship a box that costs $9 and why is it taking 10 days instead of 3? They never responded. Several days later the box shows up and what does the label say? “Media mail.” And the box weighs all of 2.5 lbs. That's right, they charged me $20 to send a package for $4. I really hope losing a return customer and having me bitch about this to anyone who will listen was worth $16.

I can't remember the source, but I remember someone giving a history of 3.5 and asserting that it was a game rife with feats and other choices that were designed to be sub-optimal, to basically punish a player for choosing them. I know that 3.5 has sub-optimal choices, but I always assumed that was a function of poor game design (or more charitably a reflection of how hard it is to balance a tactically-complex combat-centric TTRPG). Is this true? Or is someone just taking their personal beef with Monte Cook a little too seriously?

  3. Hello!

    I am wanting to capture the feeling of magic being volatile and dangerous even under routine uses. A system where powers, it doesn't have to be magic specifically but that's a bonus, are limited by risks of extended use and not running out of spell slots or spell points etc. Are there any games that do this particularly well? That technically allow the caster to use their magic as much as they'd like but encourage the caster to make interesting risk/reward decisions lest their magic blow up in their face? These costs could be mechanical like rolling too low of a number triggering something bad or more narrative like magic having unforeseen consequences, really eager to look over any suggestions that are out there.

    Bonus if the game is generally low prep/rules light but the magic system is the main thing I'd like to look over.

With my fiends we started playing the premade campaign for PF1E “The Shattered Star” a handful of years ago, we had about 2 or 3 sesions until one of the players went abroad for his thesis and we stoped playing then a lot of other things came and… Well, after all this time we are all back home so I'm thinking on taking the game again from scratch. I have to re-read the rules of the game and all to DM it minimally well. I have seen a lot of people talk about PF1E as Mathfinder, I supose it refers to all the layers of calculations you have to do in combat for different states and oportunity attacks and saving throws, etc. I have seen that PF2E has been published meanwhile and D&D5E boomed during this years.

    So question is, is that easy to turn a premade campaign for PF1E to a PF2E or D&D5E system? Would it be worth because this systems are easier to take on? Or we better stay with PF1E rules because the campaign won't work with this other rulesets? My players have almost no RP experience and I was more versed, but I haven't been playing for all this years. In case we can “transform” to another system, which do you think would better to invest in learning? PF2E or D&D5E?
